Star Trek fans rejoice, the Tricorder is here!

“(singularityhub.com)– Medical tech startup Scanadu has created a scanner that appears to have been inspired by those of Drs. McCoy and Crusher. The ‘Medical Tricorder’ scanner can take vitals such as blood pressure, pulmonary function, and temperature, and sends them to your smartphone. The device can make the difference between a needed trip to the emergency room or a waste of time and money for conditions that don’t need treatment.
The company just raised $2 million in funding from a group of investors that includes Sebastien De Halleux, co-founder of social network game maker Playfish. “ read more

White Spaces (a.k.a. "WiFi on Steroids”) has been officially launched

“(businessinsider.com)– A new form of wireless network known as White Spaces will come online next month, the FCC announced on Dec 22. White Spaces has been called "WiFi on steroids" and has been championed by the likes of Google and Microsoft.
Spectrum Bridge has been given the OK to become the first active White Spaces database administrator. The FCC says it can begin operations on January 26. The first approved device will be made by Koos Technical Services, and it will work much like a wireless router.” Read more
